Ambra Mattioli | Space Oddity | The Voice Senior
"For me, music is color—not painting. My music allows me to paint myself."
David Bowie was a matchless, extraordinary, and ever-evolving artist. The band Aladdin Insane expresses their passion for this musical legend through a truly special tribute. They have embraced the difficult challenge of reinterpreting—entirely live, without recorded music and in the original keys—David Bowie's vast repertoire. And they do so with a genuine passion that captivates and mesmerizes audiences.
The originality and strength of their musical project also lie in the charm and artistry of their singer: Ambra Mattioli, known for her participation in the first italian edition of The Voice Senior, where she performed Heroes in the Blind Auditions and Space Oddity in the semifinals as part of rapper Clementino’s team.
Those who have seen her perform agree that Ambra Mattioli, lead vocalist and frontwoman of the band, is a truly mesmerizing Ziggy Stardust. Bowie transformed his supposed androgyny into a cornerstone of his success, and in this regard, Ambra is equally remarkable and surprising.
Ambra Mattioli is widely recognized for her exceptional interpretations of David Bowie. Writer and journalist Dave Thompson mentioned her multiple times in his book The Freakiest Show: David Bowie Cover Versions, even dedicating several pages and photos to her performances.
Her talent for interpreting David Bowie's music also caught the attention of director Andrea Pallaoro, who cast her in his film Hannah, starring Charlotte Rampling, which won the Volpi Cup at the 74th Venice Film Festival. In the movie, Ambra performs Modern Love, offering the world a glimpse of the Thin White Duke living within her.
Aladdin Insane has been a well-established band for years, performing on some of the best stages in Rome and at numerous events across Italy and abroad. Their success is backed by a devoted Bowie fanbase, as evidenced by the videos on their YouTube channels (Ambra Mattioli and Aladdin Insane), as well as their active presence on Facebook and their official websites: aladdininsane.com and ambramattioli.com.
So far, Aladdin Insane is a unique band, being the only one to have performed live—without recorded music, loops, or sequencers—and in the original keys, the entire Blackstar album, David Bowie's last masterpiece.
Blackstar—performed live for the first time by Aladdin Insane at the Cross Roads Live Club in Rome—was designed and conceived for studio recording. Therefore, performing it live required months of rehearsal, a great deal of effort, exceptional passion, and uncommon musical skills from the band.: a real challenge, and even in this case Ambra Mattioli and the Aladdin Insane showed that theirs is not a simple tribute, but a real act of love and respect to David Bowie's music. Their performances offer a dream to audience, to Bowie’s fans, to lovers of good music.

Finally, here is what Ambra Mattioli always says with genuine emotion: "The applause we receive is above all for him, for his music, and a small part for us performers, who merely reflect, like the facets of a diamond, his art."
